NYC Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget G. Brennan announced the conclusion of two joint investigations conducted by the Office of the New York City Special Narcotics Prosecutor and the New York City Police Department's Major Case Unit that targeted drug dealing at 321 Edgecombe Avenue in Upper Manhattan - a six story residential building with approximately 60 apartments. The investigation culminated in the indictment of the leaders of two narcotics groups, long established in the building and the surrounding vicinity.
The main cocaine supplier controlled up to six apartments at any given time. A long-term surveillance operation confirmed ongoing street level sales of cocaine as well as large scale transactions inside several apartments by individuals believed to be supplied by Kelvis Morales.
The investigation also established a separate operation selling mainly marijuana but also cocaine in front of the building.
The investigations included undercover purchases of two A-2 felony and three A-1 felony-weight transactions of cocaine from October 2004 and January 2005. It culminated in the June 10, 2005 indictment of Lewis O'Brien, Denzel Brown, Mike Benie, Robert Williams, Jeremy Grant, and Sean Williams who were charged with criminal sale of narcotics. The defendants were responsible for the bulk of the drug activity in front of the building During the March 2005 takedown of the investigation into the Morales organization, search warrants were executed at three apartments used by his group to sell and store cocaine. On March 14, 2005 Morales and a female associate were arrested. Police recovered narcotics, drug proceeds and paraphernalia.
