New York City Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget G. Brennan announced today the indictment of Roger Benjamin Golden on Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the First Degree. Golden had stashed over 35 pounds of marijuana in a storage facility connected to the building that houses the offices of the Drug Enforcement Administration in Manhattan. Golden, who is 63 years old, was arrested by federal agents last Wednesday, September 05, 2007 at his apartment  at 5 Stuyvesant Oval in Stuyvesant Town.

On Wednesday morning, the Manhattan Mini Storage had informed DEA agents that a strong odor of marijuana was emanating from one of the storage rooms.  Upon the execution of a Special Narcotics Search warrant, DEA agents and members of the Port Authority’s K-9 unit identified the specific storage unit where they recovered approximately 35 pounds of marijuana along with a heat sealer, triple beam scale, assorted drug paraphernalia and a cardboard box labeled with the defendant’s name and address. A check of the storage application showed the unit had been rented in May and listed Golden’s cell number.

The defendant faces a 2-to-8 year sentence on today’s indictment.
