State Youth Counselor Indicted for Heroin Sales

New York City Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget G. Brennan announces the indictment of Milagros Daniels, Field Supervisor and Youth Counselor with the NEW YORK STATE OFFICE OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES (OCFS), for heroin sales to an undercover officer.

Daniels, who was assigned to the Pyramid Reception Center, an intake center for juvenile detention facilities, was indicted today on one count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree and six counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree for seven separate heroin sales occurring between October 2006 and January of this year.

The 52-year old was arrested on Friday, March 2, 2007 at the end of a joint investigation by NYPD’s Narcotics Division and the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor. The indictment is the result of a long term investigation into heroin sales totaling several thousand dollars. None of the sales were conducted on the grounds of the facility.

Narcotics Division - Bronx Borough detectives arrested the Youth Counselor and Field Supervisor at the Pyramid Reception Center office at 470 East 161 Street in the Bronx, where she worked. Daniels’ job involved counseling youths remanded by family or criminal court at the New York State run facility.

Daniels had been employed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services for the last twenty years. She was directly responsible for counseling youths and their families, conducting field investigations, and providing guidance regarding social and substance abuse programs.

Bail was set at $50,000 cash or a $100,000 bond on March 2, 2007 by Criminal Court Judge Abraham L. Clott. If convicted, Daniels faces a sentence of up to 10 years in state prison.
