A GREENBURGH, NEW YORK ASSISTANT TEACHER PLEADS GUILTY TO SELLING COCAINE IN THE SCHOOLYARD OF PUBLIC SCHOOL 28 IN UPPER MANHATTAN

Randolph Grant, formerly an assistant teacher at the Greenburgh/Graham School in Greenburgh, Westchester County pleaded guilty yesterday to Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree. Grant was caught selling cocaine in the schoolyard of Public School 28--an elementary school for pre-kindergarten to 5th grade students located at 155th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan.

At about 5:45 on the evening of October 20, 2006, Grant was observed as he negotiated and completed two sales of crack to Desirre Moody and Tyrone Little respectively-- both of whom pleaded guilty in a separate case to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree. Police recovered 30 crack vials from a cup Grant had placed on the ground when he saw the officers approaching. Grant was charged with two counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, and two counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance on School Grounds, both B felonies.

Forty-year old Grant, whose sentence hearing is scheduled for July 5, 2007, is facing three years in prison, followed by two years of post-release supervision. The defendant, who lives right around the corner from PS 28, at 501 West 156th Street, has been required to surrender his teaching license and to permanently waive any right to apply for any future school-related licenses.
